A SHADOW'S GLOW
In a world where light and shadow are personified, a creature of shadow must journey across his dark homeland to return a young spirit of light back to his home. On his journey, he must battle the elements, his own people, and his instincts as a creature of shadow.
A Shadow's Glow is a 2D animated short film produced at Savannah College of Art and Design, directed by Josh Mizrahi and Cole Fourqurean. Utilizing the integration of 2D character rigs, 2D hand-drawn FX animation, and moody visuals, A Shadow's Glow tells a heartfelt, but bittersweet story between the two lead characters. It is a visual testament that we can all strive to be better than we were yesterday, and keep moving forward.

Meet the Team
Director
Josh Mizrahi
The story of A Shadow’s Glow was created to showcase the journey that people may take as they pursue their dreams and aspirations. No matter what obstacles stand in your way or whatever the outcome may be, to keep pushing forward to reach that light at the end of the tunnel: a dream. This is also why the style of the film was chosen. Having such concrete and contrasting ideas and visuals was perfect for showing how one may go against the grain and achieve their goals. While this is just one interpretation, I hope that audiences find their own meaning and inspiration from our film!
Producer
Allison Witzmann
Taking the Role as Producer on this film was a total privilege. I love having the ability to provide my Artistic talents as well as be there for the extremely talented team. This film has great representation of overworking oneself for a larger goal, like most of us, over working and risking everything we have for a a career in the arts. It's a relatable story to all and it was an honor to be a part of.
Compositor
Annie Ingham
Being a compositor means you are in charge of turning an already gorgeous piece of work into a more complete and stunning project to watch. Having the ability to be the Lead Compositor for this film was such a fun and insightful opportunity for me. It was also the first animated film I had ever worked on, so it is very dear to my heart.
My main focus with the film was capturing the contrast between light and dark. It was also important to have Senka and Uri react accordingly to their environment and each other, giving off small glimpses of light in their sullen world as they reach for the sun.
Director
Cole Fourqurean
A Shadow’s Glow is about growth. We all have these different sides of us: a dark shadow that hangs behind us but also protects us from the paths ahead and a light inside of us that guides our wonder. Life in a nutshell is about the bonding of these two sides. They come together in contrast to make each other brighter so that maybe, eventually the shadow can glow. We wanted to incorporate those themes into the style of the film having a sharp, hard world that reflects our main character juxtaposed to the roundness of Uri. It’s about how these shapes change, and I hope the audience can see that growth within themselves and the film.
FX Lead
Ke’Shaun Grant
A Shadow’s Glow is a technical marvel. Creating and workshopping the effects has been a great explorative process. The process and experimentation for Senka and Uri’s arm effects created a unique challenge to me. The FX for this film brought everything to life and I loved that I was a part of it. The film is not grandiose. It is a simple film with a simple story. And the simplicity of the story makes it feel cohesive.
